The famous comedian and playwright NS Rao popular play of pre independence era ‘Rotti Runa’ is the base for the subject of ‘1944’ Kannada cinema.

This is the debut of popular still photographer as director. He has earlier worked in a few films as assistant. He has written screenplay besides direction and cinematography. He wanted to keep the title as ‘Duggappa’ but changed it to ‘1944’. In Booth Bungalow of Tavarekere, Kanakapura, Suligere shoot is planned for the film.

Naveen Krishna is in Duggappa role, he wages battle against British Empire in India and escape from the clutches of British. I have enough scope to perform in this film says Naveen Krishna.

Actress Shruthi is also in a revolutionary role. Shivani is Duggappa wife. Rajesh Ramanath is scoring music, Suchendra Prasad,  Bhavya and others are in the cast.
